Yes we have bears but we don't have much problem with them. I haven't seen a bear since 2005.. they keep to themselves.

So this morning I wrote to the concert folks asking for starting times for the bands. They told me the gates open at 3pm, but they still do not have an official timeline for the concert. WTF. I'd like to know when the hell to show up.... they said they don't expect the show to go past 11:30pm

I haven't encountered a bear while camping yet, but raccoons? Yes.
They are little audacious pigs that collapsed a tent once and scratched a big hole in another one.

There are supposed to be 80,000 to 100,000 going.

There's no official parking and a ban is enforced around the area.

According to the T&T, the two park & rides can accommodate 3000 cars and the buses will ferry up to 12,000 people. So up to 4 per car.

The Casino has parking for 1700, so that's another 6800 and another field - the largest one apparently can take 2000 cars. So between that field, the casino and the park & rides, that's 6700 cars and 26800 people max. In the biggest lots.

Is there room for three times as many cars in all the other places? Are 50,000 or so going on foot, cycling, drop-offs.

Thee's been parking before and buses for everyone else.

Now there's no parking and no buses unless you get to car parking (by car?).

It looks like a PR disaster, or people car pooling like never before, or loads of people walking it. I really hope it goes well. It could be really bad if it doesn't...and I don't just mean this day.

Someone in Moncton has been doing their sums and is clearly worried.

I'm concerned about parking as well - do you have a link to this article? Will the Casino be offering its parking? There's a field to park in? I don't want to be searching for parking before finding the GA line to sit in all day. Thanks...

It wasn't actually an article Billy. It was on a 'Moncton Community' forum and just an opinion posted by a local. But if you do the math I think he has a valid point.

I will try and find it again but it was the kind of site where 'Dave is having a bbq on the 30th' was big news

edit. There you go http://www.monctonforums.com/index.php?topic=2698.0

and it was Dan having the bbq!

timestranscript.com - More U2 tickets on sale | by alan cochrane - Breaking News, New Brunswick, Canada

More grandstand tickets released and it looks like it won't break the Stones record since they're capping the sales at 80K.

As for what time the music starts, here is an extremely precise quote from Shane Porter, the City of Moncton's manager of venues..."Porter said yesterday that gates will open at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, with the music beginning a few hours later."

YES, come on, locals, give us the scoop! ;D

Not gonna lie - there's a very good possibility that the "magnetic hill" may cause the stage to hover and rotate! :shifty:

How close is the casino to the grounds?

The casino is just probably a 15-20 minute walk from the entrance to the concert site (and the Concert Camping grounds)... But it's a long walk to get to the concert site from the entrance (you have to walk past a water park and a zoo) so it's not really doable if you want to go to the concert site and then leave (if you're allowed) to slip into the casino and then walk back to the concert site... Directions to Casino in New Brunswick | Casino in the Maritimes
PS- They have really good food at the casino though, and also regarding food: as someone said before there is a McDonalds just up the road from the Concert Camping grounds and the concert site entrance, but there is also a Subway and a Tim Hortons in a gas station directly accross from McDicks...

My understanding is that previously they have had 'people turning up for the day' parking by the site and this time they don't and they have changed the bus transport in some way? So whatever worked for the Stones/ACDC etc has been changed, apparently for the worse? If you drive into Moncton on Saturday and all the park and ride bracelets are gone how/where do you park up and get to the site?

There was 85,000 people there for the Stones and yes they had on-site parking in fields for the first few shows they put on there, but after the Brooks & Dunn show when it poured rain the entire show and hundreds and hundreds of cars got stuck in the mud (I spent an hour and a half pushing cars after the show before having to strip down to my boxers and drive 2 hours to get home on PEI  haha), they decided to scrap the on-site parking. So all the parking is just private as well as the shuttles...
For AC/DC there was 70,000 - 75,000 people and it worked fine with just the private parking and shuttles (well I assume so anyway, I always camp at the "Concert Camping" site now so I don't have to deal with all that traffic haha)

just need to bend a tree.....works as a great seat. there should be flushable toilets on the campsite too, canadians aren't that backwards.

haha actually if you're at the "Concert Camping" "campground" - 360 days a year its just a big field with long grass so: not flushable toilets lol but they did setup portable showers of some kind for AC/DC lol

I thought of leaving a day early and visting PEI. Is it difficult to get from Charlottetown and back to Moncton?

Wheres PEI GUY?

My bad - I was away lol But you shouldn't have any problem whatsoever getting to PEI - the routes are all well marked and it's only about 1-1/2 hours from Moncton to Charlottetown! The divided highway going towards PEI stops about 30 minutes outside of Moncton though (at Shediac actually) and then it's all two lane (one each direction) highways from there, but there are passing lanes on the Island. The only hurdle is the $43.25 toll fee you have to pay when leaving the Island on the Confederation Bridge - it's free to come over but when you try to leave we shake you down and take your money haha

I'm already trembling in fear of the porta potties' condition by Sunday morning. I am bringing toilet paper, disinfectant wipes, and a flashlight.

Dumb question - if you have a spot reserved and the car "fee" paid, you can park your car in the same spot, right? It's not like cars would be in one area and camping in another?

Well... they let you take your car to where you want to pitch your tent but they ask that you move it to one of the parking areas after your tent is setup. I know that at AC/DC they went around once and asked people to bring their cars back to the parking area but the next night some people kept their vehicles by their tents and they never said anything.

The first night they kind of had people putting up their tents in somewhat organized looking rows and keeping aisles for vehicles, but the day of the concert tents just pop up everywhere so it almost isn't really safe to drive your vehicle through the site - I went to sleep one night and we were the only tent in one area of the field, when I woke up the next morning there was literally a tent within 5' of ours in every direction lol - it gets pretty tight concert day! But it's a blast, they have music, people bring their stereos, people bring guitars!

WOW! Did not know about this. That is steep.

We are coming from PEI on the day of the show (and going back). Looks like you can pay the toll in Charlottetown. Would you suggest pre-paying? does it make the crossing easier?

I think we will buy parking at the casino and hike it from there. This little show is getting more and more expensive. It just may end up costing me as much as Honolulu did. :yikes:

So if car = our tent, we might have to sleep in a parking area instead of a tent area. *sigh* Whatever.

Yeah, that's ........... not great. Is the parking area at least still within the campground area?

But whatever. My car is my bed, so I'll sleep where I gotta sleep. If the porta potties aren't in walking distance of the parking lot, then I'm going right outside the car.

I told some gal on Facebook she could set up her sleeping bag near my car so she was at least near someone she remotely knew.

Um ..... better let her know that might not work.
