I've never understood the first sentence from "Electrical Storm"

"The sea it swells like a sore head" what is a "sore head"
i know what each word by itsef means, but when they come together ....
Does it mean painful face?

Thanks!

I think you have to look at the whole verse to catch the real meaning...

The sea it swells, like a sore head
And the night, it is aching
Two lovers lie with no sheets on their bed
And the day, it is breaking

Well, the first two lines make me think of a hangover - the headache and 'seasickness' you feel the next day. Not just any headache.. that pulsing, swimming, don't-want-to-move-my-head headache...

"The sea it swells, like a sore head" turns that on it's head }:)~ Looking out a window at a dirty-grey sea, sunrise just a lightening of the sky, the ocean rolling with huge undefined waves... like the sea after a storm.

The next two lines turn that alcohol-induced hangover to one induced by love... the 'morning-after' feeling from a rowdy bout of lovemaking ('no sheets on their bed')... the sun's coming up and it's uncertain if the passion of the night before is going to last through the first moments of wakefulness, much less even that day....

Very nice visualizations from Bono in that little stanza!

Thank you Rivergoat for your deep explanation.
i liked your interpetation very much.

I knew that Bono meant in the first sentence of this song
"The sea it swells like a sore head"
to demonstrate the sea at the time of a big storm with enourmous waves.
As you said we can figured it from the whole verse.
But i still don't understand the meaning of the phrase "sore head" (because english is not my naitive language...)
Is there a meanning for these two words together?
Does anyone know?

Thanks.

The phrase "sore head" means your head hurts, like you have a headache.

For example: if someone hit you on the head with a hammer, you would have a sore head.

Does that help?

That's pretty much my thoughts on the sore head lyric. My question is this. Is the lyric "The air is heavy, heavy as a truck" the wort U2 lyric ever?

I didn't understand the question did you mean the worst ?
if that was what you meant then i guess that you are right. it's not the best line that Bono wrote....
But it is still a great song.
