do we still love Vertigo?

I have to say that when I first heard the song I liked it but it went down hill from there. There is, IMO, something thin and too easy about the song, a quality that is antithetical to the great U2 songs. Usually U2 songs grow on me, but in this case Vertigo has worn very thin. I have spoken to a few U2 fans who seems to agree with me, but it also seems that on this board in particular, people are loving the song. I do feel that the Eno/Lanois influence is missing and I hope does not hurt the overall album--So, what do we think after about a week with Vertigo?

I think everybody hates it now

at least that's what they told me

it's actually grown on me.
I think it's a pretty ok song now

It gets better with each listen. And I'm freakin' sick of the Elevation comparisons.

I feel the same way as i first heard it and that's usually the way i feel with all U2 songs. The first time i hear them is usually how i feel even years later, so i don't really understand this 'growing on me' thing, U2's not a fungus you know.

Just wait until you hear it in context with the rest of the LP.

Better yet, wait until you hear it LIVE! :)

Who has a spare ticket for dallas ?

I think of Vertigo as candy. It's a fun little song, but I think I will prefer other tracks on the album. Which is kind of funny, because Beautiful Day was the first single off of ATYCLB, and it's probably my favorite track off that album, if not in the top 3 at least.

I don't listen to it on repeat every day for 5 hours, maybe that's why some have went off it, over exposure! I listen to it once in a while and I really enjoy it, it just has a great energy to it. I'm not going to spoil it by listening to it all the time, I think I could make myself sick of it.

It's a good song, but not great, but that's alright, it's just there for the fun. I don't expect them to release classic songs every single time. It's gonna be a killer live as well. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it and the direction they're going in.

I love it still, god knows how many times I would have listened to it by the time its actually released.

your love is teaching me how to kneeeeeel.

I think "Vertigo" seems unfinished. :(

It begins with the counting off of Larry's drums, then Bono counts off again as if they were caught off guard, then all of a sudden, the guitar stops, like The Edge couldn't come up with a riff for the verse. Then, right when the verse starts going around in your head, it stops abrubtly and goes into AN AWESOME CHORUS!!! Ok, back to the just OK verse, but this time we get some "whoah oh oh oh ohs," but after this verse we never hear them again. OK, another rocking chorus. Then, two bridges, and then another, slower bridge, and then back to the chorus. A couple of yeahs and then it's over.

I still like it, but I hope the whole album isn't this "raw."

LOL @ Basstrap!

I still  it - it's growing on me, actually, and my local cover band (Aust U2 Show) played it on Friday night - it's a KILLER live in a small room full of people who already know all the words. the band had it totally down pat too - not bad at fairly short notice!

Cheers ~Ultra

What about the 1,2,3-14 thing, i'm pretty sure that means 3:14 in the bible. It's amazing how many Bible references Bono comes up with.

Nothing biblical with that....Bono's just referring to the fact that the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 14th U2 album were all produced by Steve Lillywhite.

And THANK GOD that the Lanois/Eno influence is gone  . Steve Lillywhite producing U2 usually guarantees that there is much more bass in the songs.....if you ask me it can stay like that.

I still  LOVE  Vertigo. It's a great song....definitely much better than most songs on ATYCLB.
