New Album Discussion 1 - Songs of..... - Unreasonable guitar album

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

It's the same old thing over and over again. No new album this year is what I said early this year. And yes, we should've heard at least one little thing about it. U2Songs were sure the album would be released in fall 2024. It will be fall 2025 at earliest. No problem to me if they would finally open their vaults and release Lovetown, TJT30, Songs of Surrende Bono show, pop deluxe, 5.1 atmos albums on blu ray, Songs of Ascent. Instead of the hyped releases on streaming and streaming already released shows for two days only.
It's time to retire or listen to what fans want.
Time to 'dream it all over again'. And WITH Larry.

I mean yeah, every album post Bomb has had the same song and dance. When the rumors, give a date, always add a year, then do it again. Repeat. I really hope no one was actually banking on a U2 album this year.

I wonder how much releases like those are now worth to a band like U2 and their label in terms of the money needed to be spent on marketing & production vs the income they're likely to generate?

Does a new U2 album require much promotion and fanfare anymore ?

Drop the singles, then the album, then the tour dates. Peoples attention spans aren’t going to bother with some drawn out process and they don’t have the pull for some major marketing blitz

i would welcome a new U2 album. i don't NEED a new U2 album.

i'd rather they spend their energy on playing live and touring.
Haha yep. I would take actual studio versions of "All My Life", "For Your Love", etc. I have a lot of interest in early versions of NLOTH songs as well. I remember the Beach Clip of "Crazy Tonight" not sounding so bubble gummy.

to be perfectly honest... my preference would be that they focus on touring and opening up the vaults. we know there isn't much time left here. if SOA is actually done? release it.

also, ya know, it's 2024... you can work on a song at a time and just release it. so if they have something they feel is special? hey, you can keep working on it WHILE touring and playing live, and just drop it as a stand alone.

don't get me wrong - i'd be very happy with a new U2 album. but i don't need them wasting another year recording when they could be out playing.

yes, that's incredibly selfish of me and they should be able to do what they want.

but still.

For me, opening up the vaults is the obvious one. The material is already there, so it's not like it would take a lot of time and effort to pull together vs. a new album. It could be ready by the holidays if they wanted it to. And then you can tour and promote that material, and then maybe start planning something new after.

My assumption is they had an album ready to drop, and then Biden did his thing. Now the theme of the album has to be revisited and reimaged for Harris..... ;)

Speaking of... what the hell is with this Beautiful Day remaster. Like... what's Remastered? Who was asking for that? It just sounds like... Beautiful Day? Jesus.

Yep, trying to remember what single came next...think it was Stuck, then Elevation

Nice to hear some live Popmart songs

Yep, 100%. I have little excitement for a new album. I'm sure it'll have good moments, but I'm more about retrospect at this point. Would love some live recordings that we haven't heard yet too.

I assume opening the vaults comes with months of reworking and deliberation - it’d take them as much effort as recording a new album.

There’d be nothing stopping them doing unheard outtakes, rarities and interesting things in each period of the band while finishing this new album.

Songs not finished, recorded and shelved, early versions and jams from 1976-1983, 1984-1989, 1990-1998, 1999-2008, 2009-2024. If they want someone to trawl through the tapes I can take leave from work…

I mean they've been issuing remastered hi res versions of every single for a few months now so I assume this is just the continuance
Wait were the original singles not available on Spotify yet? I didn't realize that. Odd.

Also the remastering just seems so pointless... like... what are they remastering? They aren't old or unfinished tracks. It sounds nearly identical to the og release.

So sure, there's some duplication to this process. There always will be. But some of the singles they have reissued didn't exist on streaming, or were incomplete, or didn't have high res lossless versions of the B sides, etc.

It's not like they're pushing this hard. They're just slowly going through the back catalog and updating. I definitely appreciate it.

Same. Being a completist, I'm glad that I can have these all available in my library.

in Europe, it was BD -- Stuck -- Elevation -- Walk ON
in North America, it was BD -- Walk On -- Elevation -- Stuck (awful football video)

i remember because i was living in Europe at the time.

I'm good with it once I realized the singles weren't already on there. I thought it was odd just barely remastering singles that were already out until I realized they didn't exist on Spotify yet.

I *am* still not good with the T-Shirt quality. With each single they push, I get ads for the T-Shirt that accompanies it and made the mistake of ordering one and it's pure garbage quality.

Yeah, the t-shirt quality (in terms of the quality of the material used) has been mostly poor of late. Some of the designs leave a lot to be desired as well. However, the quality of the Zooropa 30 t-shirts last year were good (heavy cotton), and the Celebration one was also heavy cotton. Most t-shirts in the last year or two have been poor though, especially any Sphere/U2:UV t-shirts 😬

Yup. I’ve been calling for digital singles for years. Easy way to keep the fanbase engaged and make it at least appear like they’re an active working band

I went on an eBay shopping spree a couple of years ago to get the original UK CD singles from Stay to Walk On (had the HTDAAB singles already). Already had the mp3s torrented but with them MIA on streaming it felt nice to have a hard copy. Glad they're finally streaming, really no excuse for any previously released songs to not be.

I was pleasantly surprised at the good designs for the Sphere residency, it was actually a tough choice between a few different ones--I wound up with the colored Trabant stack on black.

Can't really testify as to its durability or quality, as I don't wear it very often. The material feels a little thinner than back in the day but I prefer a tighter/slimmer fit these days. I do have some 80s and 90s official shirts that are still in great shape.
