3 Irishmen and a Dutchman Walk Into A Sphere - General Discussion Thread Part III

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Call me biased, but I just really can't think of any other artists that could utilize the Sphere quite as well as U2 did. I just don't think there's a whole lot of groups with iconic imagery (Zoo Station TVs, The Fly words, etc.) that make it fun.

I feel like you would need to create new "iconic" imagery and kind of have that be your whole thing now.

oh there are plenty who could - but it's a question of who would want to put that much work in.

phish went more generic on what they did than U2 and still took close to a year to get the production done, so there's a barrier to entry here. the key to long term success for the venue is lowering that barrier before other venues (and global touring in general) catch up to the technology.

looks like we have a pretty good idea at who will be coming after Dead and Co.

“It’s the greatest canvas ever created, and to be one of the first bands to go in there and do it — this is our masterpiece,” Zach Brown said during an appearance on Theo Von’s podcast, which posted Tuesday. “This is our chance to show what we can really do, as a band.”

I believe the Zac Brown Band has a very large following and like U2 they have fans who will travel and spend the money to see them. That's what the owners of Sphere care about.

Country acts and bands tend to do very well in Las Vegas, from what I've heard.
I guess, but to go from 3 iconic acts to… Zac Brown Band?

It’s a step down. And perhaps indicative of the challenges of pulling in another superstar-level act into what's essentially an arena residency when so many global stadium acts are currently on tour, in stadiums. Eventually Dolan was going to have to pull in non-legends but didn’t think it would be so soon. As long as tickets sell, however, I guess he doesn’t care.

But, like, where’s Muse?

i absolutely despise modern day country music - but he'll pull a big crowd.

i think there would be a lot more of a domestic pull for Zac Brown Band than for Muse, as much as that pains me to say.

Oh sure, and that’s good for a weekend or 2, maybe more based on pricing. They just never struck me as a production-centric act. Headscratcher.

I think The Killers would be great for a short Sphere residency. This year is the 20th anniversary of Hot Fuss (dear God…). If they decide to play that in full in their hometown? That’d be a draw.

I know Brandon has shown an interest in playing there. But they already have an eight show residency at the The Colosseum in August and September celebrating the Hot Fuss anniversary. So if they do play at some point, it'll probably be for something else.
