    NHL Thread

Yeah they will need a new arena ASAP. Ryan Smith unveiled plans a few months ago for a new downtown arena near the Delta Center for the Jazz and a future NHL team, so plans are in the works. They could also possibly play temporarily at the 12,600 seat Maverik Center in the west suburbs which was...

    NHL Thread

Several reports out today that the Coyotes could be moving to Utah! Would be so fucking awesome to have an NHL team here. I really hope it happens. https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/39915208/coyotes-relocate-salt-lake-city-part-nhl-plan

Spacefarer's Guide to Getting off this Planet

Had a couple co-workers travel to Texas to be in the path. Not sure I’d ever go to that much effort, but I would like to experience totality once in my life. I do live in the path of totality for the next major US total eclipse in 2045. Hoping I’m still around by then.

    NBA 2023-24 Thread

Hey at least we’re 5th in…something. It’s been a terrible season and this team is not much fun to watch. A projected weak upcoming draft isn’t helping.

New Album Discussion 1 - Songs of..... - Unreasonable guitar album

1997 was also a weird time for popular music, at least in the US. Hip hop/rap was huge, ska was popular, boy bands were becoming big and most 80’s bands had all fallen out of favor. REM and Depeche Mode saw similar declines in popularity. There may have not been any song that U2 could have...

Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

Liking Elbow's new album, much more guitar driven and up tempo than recent records. Balu, Good Blood Mexico City, and From The River are standouts.

Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

Ha now I have that song stuck in my head. I prefer the Talk Talk (or even No Doubt version) song with the same name.

Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

I listened to Laughing Stock today and read up on both of them a bit more. Sounds like they are both considered very influential albums for the beginnings of post-rock (and you can totally hear it). I liked After The Flood, Taphead and New Grass, although I will say at this point I like Spirit...

Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

I have been listening through Talk Talk's discography this week for the first time. Why did no one tell me about Spirit of Eden? I am loving this and such a dramatic change in style from their first couple albums. Really love Mark Hollis voice too.

3 Irishmen and a Dutchman Walk Into A Sphere - General Discussion Thread Part III

That was one of my biggest takeaways from the Sphere was how great the sound quality was and my ears weren't ringing afterwards like nearly every other concert I've been to.

Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

I got Men at Work greatest hits on one of those 10 CD's for a penny back in the 90's. Overkill was always a favorite and as an anxious teenager I related well to the lyrics. Something so soothing about that song.

Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

I would like to! The Kilby lineup looks great this year. I don't have tickets yet. The second half of "Capricorn" reminds me of what Low was doing on their final album. I like it.

New album from The Smile tomorrow. Probably the closest thing we'll get to another new Radiohead album.

Maybe the Sphere could hire fake Bono. He's usually hanging out at the Venetian.

2023 year in review: bests, worsts, surprises, etc

No problem! Thanks. I hadn't put a list together in a few years but it was pretty fun going back through the new music I've discovered this year. I'm hoping LemonMelon might make a drive-by post and give us his albums of the year. I've always found new stuff to like in his extensive year-end...

Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

Just barely learned this week that it is Flea and Dave Navarro playing on Alanis Morisette's "You Oughta Know". Going back and listening to it, that bass line is unmistakable Flea and really elevates the song. Apparently Taylor Hawkins was also the drummer on the Jagged Little Pill tour but...
