U2: Zooropa Album Review - Pitchfork

I don't care if he claims having attended only as "One Campagn spokesperson / I only came to promote my philantropy, nothing else". Appearing and speaking in the congress of a pan-european party during the campaign or in context of pre-campaign of an election for the European Parliament is...

U2: Zooropa Album Review - Pitchfork

For me, making an appearance on a party congress 5-6 weeks before the election, and making a speech like the one he did here, is endorsing it without a doubt.

    Invisible...

What I remember reading is that Reach was #1 and Raised By Wolves was #2, but it was in a stage where the album was not finished and the songs possibly sounded quite different.

I'd easy swap the dull and plane "Desert Island Disk" that never leads anywhere for "Ill Wind" which is way more interesting.

    European Set Changes

You could've bring other examples. No one's saying that U2's past tours have a tight narrative from the intro to the last encore, nor that's what this current tour needs. No one's saying that a U2 show is a Broadway music. But there's a strong guideline and some theatrical aspects (not only...

    European Set Changes

Both. All U2 rock shows have always had a tight (or loose) narrative.

    European Set Changes

I agree with mofo82. Despite the recent changes in the setlist, some things still puzzle me - like the "Elevation" and "Vertigo" combo introducing a more "politicized" section that brings that Macphisto reissue back, like the lack of narrative after "Beautiful Day" with the new choices, like...

    European Set Changes

With this stage set, with the current zeitgeist in Europe, it's a shame that "Zooropa" isn't played in its full form inside the cage opening the second act. It has the long intro (which could perfectly replace HMTMKMKM - I never liked it turned into an pre-recorded interlude) and and dynamics of...

    Pop and ATYCLB vinyl reissues

Are there any big differences in terms of songs it self on the Pop reissue? For instance, the "Last Night On Earth" hiccup at the 2:15 mark or the sudden "Staring At The Sun" fade out were corrected?

The album version of LoH is better and the strings version or even better. But this Beck remix is definitely an interesting perspective on the song, reinforcing to me the belief that U2 should work and team with Beck or other people with his ability instead of Epworth or the One Republic frontman.

I also prefer the strings version, but I must agree that the bassline in the second verse of the album version is great. Maybe they should've make an hybrid version of the two versions as fan-made file I heard right after the album leak.

    Pop and ATYCLB vinyl reissues

I think it's the exact opposite: the video (and specially the song) aged very well - way better than many post Pop songs/videos - because U2 dared to go ahead with that sort of conceptual silly-ness and put them selves in a deliberate awkwardness, all wrapped in some of Stèphane Sednaoui's most...

Now this is the U2 we missed. It would be interesting if, on tour, Bono started to play with Trump's s*ithole tweets, statements and actions in a sarcastic-yet-serious way as he did here, just like Mirrorball Man/Macphisto used to do when calling to inconvenient people, in a reverse way of that...

"Boots" is a lyrical disgrace, yet is far more interesting sonically than "American Soul"... which is also far from being a lyrical oeuvre d'art either.

Agreed. It wouldn't shock me if they used it in a "Red Flag Day" (or even in a "Summer Of Love") video. But this is just part of the problem. I could tolerate an animated video if it was good enough to support the concept. But it is not. The concept is simultaneously superficial, messy and...

Hope they won't do the same to U2 they did with Lana Del Rey... ...Specially if we remember that there's a lot of "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" in "High And Dry". ...I still think there's something "Stay'ish" in "Love Is Bigger" - specially in Bono's singing and in the main riff.

    Atomic Bomb Appreciation

HTDAAB is not my favourite album. In fact it's in the bottom half of my ranking. But it's the album I most relate to. And in that ranking, HTDAAB would be #1. The album came out in the hardest period of my life and there were songs that I could relate so much, meaning that this is one of the...

It's not my favourite track on the new album, but it's been 48 hours since this song got stuck in my head in a continuous loop and that I can't stop singing the lyrics and that initial riff. It's a very simple song but very effective. Should it be a single as Bono suggests?

Songs of Experience 36 - Now with 20% fewer acronyms

They've been very successful and have been doing right in getting richer the same 1%, indeed. It's funny that the same U2 that shouts "Poverty is Sexist" is the same U2 that puts on the feminist pedestal two women that are the biggest contributors to lead to poverty and extreme poverty thousands...
